So you’ve sent in your C.V and have that important call inviting you to that all important interview. Don’t be too blasé about this, you may feel full of confidence but that may well come across as cockiness and work against you instead of for you. There are a few things you should do to prepare or this meeting with your prospective employer.
To start with, we all dread interviews, despite our confident facade. Sitting and waiting to be summoned is akin to sitting in a dentist’s waiting room waiting for a wisdom tooth extraction. Keep calm and don’t check out the opposition, just remember that you are there on merit, your C.V impressed them as much as everyone else’s.
You don’t need me to tell you that appearance is all important. Many an initial first impression has been ruined by a smile revealing a mouthful of nasty gnashers. Make sure you enter that room with a smile to be proud of. If you are suffering from something like gum disease which can produce an unpleasant odour, ensure that you have used your mouthwash or whatever else your dentist has given you to combat the odour.
Get a good nights sleep the night before so you look bright and fresh. If you wake up with something like a headache or toothache, take painkillers in plenty of time for them to work before you have your interview. These pains will distract you and could ruin an otherwise perfectly good meeting.
Relax and be yourself, don’t put on an act as these are experienced people who will see right through you and dismiss you as a fake. This is your big chance, don’t blow it!
